Pleasance Farm, Kenilworth, covers 460 acres of the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

The farm lies adjacent to Kenilworth Castle, in the picturesque Arden area of Warwickshire. It is steeped in history being part of the Kenilworth Castle estate until the early 20th Century and contains some important historical features. The farm name comes from the French word ‘Pleasaunce’ meaning pleasure garden. The remains of this feature can still be seen today in the field in front of the farm buildings.

The family moved to the farm in 1963 and is now run by Henry Lucas and his son Ian. Traditional Hereford cattle graze the grassland around the castle. These are sold, when mature, to Waitrose. In addition arable crops grown, including barley, wheat and rape.

North Mere provides quality self-catering accommodation in a peaceful setting. Our three barn conversions are situated on a working family farm in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, convenient for Birmingham (NEC and NIA), Coventry, Warwick University, Leamington Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds.

The access is located off a quiet country lane within minutes of major roads and motorways.

It is only a short walk to Kenilworth Castle and within easy reach of Kenilworth’s numerous pubs, restaurants and shops.

Wildlife and the environment

There has been active management of wildlife habitats on the farm since the family moved here. This has developed further since 1999 and the aim is to farm in a way that not only improves the habitats for wildlife but also creates an income for the family.

Care of the environment is priority both on the farm and in the self catering accommodation. To try and reduce our impact on the environment, reliance on oil and cut bills we have decided to use renewable energy to heat the farmhouse, the Old Dairy, Bray Barn and the Granary. They are now all heated by a fully automated wood pellet boiler. We also have a recycling policy in the self catering units and on the farm.

Walking

The farm and the local countryside has numerous foot paths crossing it which you can access directly from your holiday cottage. You will find further details of walks across Warwickshire in your cottage on arrival.

Meet The Team

Tamarind

Tamarind is the first person who you will be in contact with as she takes all the bookings.  She is also the chief baker in the family.  In the summer you can sample some of her cakes in the Shepherd’s hut café in the farmhouse garden.

Zoe

Zoe does a lot of the work behind the scenes and is in charge of marketing and the accounts.  She also works with Tamarind to make sure the cottages are ready for your stay.

Judy

Judy is in charge of keeping all the cupboards stocked and sewing.  A lot of the cushions and curtains are her handy work.  Judy is the one with an eye for detail, making sure the cottages have everything that you need to make a relaxing stay.

Henry

Head gardener and odd job man.  Henry is the reason why the gardens around the cottages look so amazing.  He can often be found tightening toilet seats too!
